Hi, I'm Ms. Barnes.
I
was born and raised in Chateaugay, New York
where I attended Chateaugay Central School.
While in high school I was involved in
soccer, cheerleading, softball, Chateaugay
Central Drama and Theater Group, Select
Chorus, and student government.
In 2000 I began my college education at The
State University of New York at Potsdam to
study elementary education with a
specialization in history. In 2005 I
received my BA in elementary education and
history. My first experience with the
Salmon River School District came when I
student taught in sixth grade with Mrs.
Szarka. After graduating in 2005, I also
began my graduate experience. A year
later I received my Masters of Science in
Education in the field of literacy. While
attending graduate school I worked for the
Salmon River Central School District at the
Mohawk School as a Kindergarten Teaching
Assistant as part of the Reading First
Grant.
In 2006, I was hired as a First Grade
Teacher in Salmon River Elementary.
After teaching first grade for a year, I
moved to second grade for the 2007-2008
school year.
I
have truly enjoyed teaching both first and
second grade. As I began in
Kindergarten and have moved up a grade for
the past three years, I have been able to
see many children make amazing strides each
year. The primary years of education
are a truly wonderful time where students
learn so much academically, socially, and
emotionally everyday. I look forward
to my continued role as an educator of our
community's young minds.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with
my family, playing with my cat Zeus,
reading, camping, and playing the piano.
