CD-ROM - CD Read Only Memory
DVD - Digital Versatile Discs store up to 4.5Gb of information
email - (electronic mail)  a way of sending & receiving messages
Freeware - software that is available to download from the internet and is completely free
Harddrive - a server of magnetized metal disk platters read by a small arm that passes over them, like a record player, you can hear them spinning. This is where all your data and programs are stored.
Hardware - equipment used to run software
HTML - Hypertext Markup Language
IP - Internet Protocol
ISP - (Internet Service Provider)  the company  that you get the internet through
MIME - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions
Network - group of computers that are linked together in a way that users can exchange and share information
Program - a set of instructions that makes a computer work in a certain way (software)
RAM - (Random Access Memory) memory used to temporarily store the files and programs you are working on
ROM - (Read Only Memory) holds basic details about the computer and a small self-test program that runs every time you switch on the computer
Router connects 2 or more IP networks
Shareware - software that is free for a limited period, usually 30 days, or costs a very low amount (under $20)
TCP Transmission Central Protocol
URL - Uniform Resources Location- address on the internet
WWW - World Wide Web
