Homework Policy-
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday.
Students in grade 3 can expect to see 30 minutes of homework each
night (10 minutes per grade level). Homework is a review of
skills already taught. Please allow your child to try to do
his/her homework independently. Students should use side A on
a Saxon Math lesson to help with side B. I appreciate any help
that you give to your child. Please just keep in mind that the
homework is a review. If you ask your child to correct mistakes
please don't point out the specific mistake, ask your child to check
over the work to try to find the mistake. This encourages
independence and self checking (which is a big goal this year).

Absences- When students are absent
they are responsible for making up the work. Students will
have a "While You Were Out" packet on their desk when they return.
Two times the number of days absent equals the number of days the student has
to make up the work.(2 days absent equals 4 days to make up work) Much is missed when a student is absent
(direct instruction, class activities, group work, experiments).
Some of the work cannot be made up at home and will have to be made
up at school from 2:30-3:15. REGULAR ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY
ENCOURAGED!

ask to see this journal each night. It is not necessary
for you to sign each of your child's papers. I ask that you
only sign the journal each night.

It has a place for you to sign and date so that I know that you have
seen your child's work for the week.

"Proud To Be Me"-
Your child will the “Proud
To Be Me, Person Of The Week” during one full week of the school
year. As the “Person of the Week” each student completes a packet.
These items are displayed on the “Proud to be Me” bulletin board in the
classroom. The "Person of the Week" gives a small presentation to the
class based on the information completed in the packet. Photos may also
be sent in to display on the bulletin board. As the "Person of the
Week", the student gives a presentation, is the line leader for the
entire week and is also the messenger for the week.

Discipline- There are three
rules in our classroom. #1 Be respectful at all times.
#2 Be responsible. #3 Be safe. I expect students to
follow these rules at all times. Students are expected to do
the right thing because it is the right thing to do. There are
no rewards given for appropriate behavior. Good choices are
encouraged. Since appropriate behavior is expected at all
times there is not a list of set consequences. Bad choices are
discouraged. Each incident will be dealt with individually.
There
is only one set consequence. If a student does not hand in homework
when it is due, the consequence is loss of free time on Fun Friday. Students will work
on incomplete homework during this time. After three times the student
is kept after school from 2:30 to 3:15 and a phone call is made to the
parents.

Effort- Students are expected to put
forth their best effort at all times. Neatness is expected on
every assignment. Corrections are assigned on some work to
ensure that a student understands the material. Students
receive extra instruction after a failing grade and are encouraged
to make up the assignment for a higher grade.

AIS- Students may be kept after
school from 2:30 to 3:15 as an extension of the school day on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday. Students will receive extra help at this
time. I keep a Tuesday-Thursday group and a Wednesday group.
You will receive a notice letting you know your child's days. These are set
groups and students are expected to stay on their assigned night(s). After the
New York State ELA and Math Exam students will
receive notices at the beginning of each week, letting them know
which day I'd like them to stay. Parents are asked to sign and
return the notes on Tuesday. ~to

Class Website-
A lot of time and thought has gone into our class website.
My goal is to have a website that is user friendly. I would
like it to be a source of information for parents. I'd like it
to be many things for my students. First, I hope that it is a
source of information for my students. I also hope that
students use this site to safely navigate the internet to access
information.
My hope is to expose the students to new things (curriculum related
facts, current events, art, literature, poetry, music, different
cultures, authors, illustrators, reference materials, etc).
Hopefully this new platform for learning will motivate my students
to keep learning. My goal is to integrate technology into the
curriculum to enhance student learning. I hope this webpage
will build an educational relationship beyond the classroom with my
students and their families. This website will be used
as a teaching tool whether it is used individually by students or whole
class instruction is delivered via the SMART board. ~to
