Geography Vocabulary

location where something is found
map picture that shows the location of something
continent one of the seven main areas of land on the Earth
ocean large body of salt water (4)
globe a round model of the earth
hemisphere a half of the earth
equator an imaginary line that is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole
symbols a picture that is used to stand for something that is real on the Earth
map key a box that tells what the symbols on a map stand for
distance scale the scale on the map that tells the real distance
compass rose a symbol on a map that shows where the directions north, south, east and west are found

Our world has seven continents
and four big oceans too.
If you take a close look at a map
you'll see it's 3/4 blue.
North and South America make up the western land.
Antarctica is by itself, far down in the south it stands.
Europe and Asia, the look like one big piece.
With Africa to the south of them and Australia to the southeast.
